Hi,
I'm just curious what robot ideas people are attempting to make with Create.  The Projects forum is definately starting to grow - looks like a lot of people are having fun with the Create.  Post your robot dreams/concepts in this thread.

Thanks,

I am equipping mine with PIR motion sensors and a sonar range finder (both from Parallax.com).  I intend my Create to patrol my house at night and serve as a sentry.  My house is outfitted with X10 control units on all my lights.  Using a digital output on the command module, the Create can turn on the house lights if it detects an intruder.

my ultimate goal is to use my Create with my Lego NXT. However, I also have the goal of making a C# Create framework first.

I went through the trouble of attaching a lego base plate, & I now have some of the lego sensors attached..

I am currently waiting for a bluetooth USB key for my computer to talk to the NXT

It is however, good to see that someone made a C# framework for the NXT so I don't have to make one...

http://www.mindsqualls.net/Introduction.aspx

I'm also looking to program a thin wrapper that encapsulates both frameworks so that a user can buy the Create & the NXT, & do a lot of robot work without having to pick up any tools whatsoever. Call it the "snap together" approach.

I'm really interested in seeing how well the Lego 'Compass Sensor' will work with Create.

The wife wants to see my robotic investments start paying off soon. :robotvery-happy:

I think it is entirely possible to have a Lego NXT arm on Create that can pick up small bits of trash around the house.

Kevin

I would love to use the Create as something one could control remotely, via the Internet and a wifi wireless connection. I notice the faq says that currently there is no wireless connection possible. Can anyone comment on when such an option could become available? When the option does become available, will it work with the current version of Create?

An option like this would open the Create to a whole new variety of useful projects, e.g. one can mount a camera and use it view each room in your house while at work or away.

Another useful option would be a low-power 110 volt outlet that works off the Create battery.

I think right now with a wireless serial adapter (like BlueTooth) and a wireless webcam you could control the Create from the web and monitor what it's doing from the camera.  Several vendors sell wireless B and G cameras with built-in web servers, pan & tilt, etc.   I have a Linksys WVC200 which is a color camera with pan & tilt and web server.  I believe you could power it from the Create battery instead of the 12V power supply.

JohnQ -  This is a cool idea, especially the integration with X10.  There's a lot of things you could do with that, espcially if you added some sort of comms to the robot.

Kevin-I've been waiting for someone to create an interface between the Create and the NXT.  I agree that putting some sort of Arm on the Create would be a great use of the lego system.

Regarding the C# framework - are you aware of the Create services in Microsoft Robotics Studio?  The robotics studio supports C# and they also have services for the NXT.

Hi,
It's unlikely we'll have an iRobot wifi solution in 2007, however you can enable this with a combination of Gumstix devices.

In order to add wireless internet capability to the iRobot Create, a more powerful microcontroller is needed along with a networking card of some sort and a custom cable to connect it to the Create.  The easiest way to do this is by purchasing the tiny Gumstix computers from www.gumstix.com

The cost is not cheap (about $245 for all the parts), but you will basically have a full linux system powering your Create by the time you are through.  I've attached a parts list and instructions.  Good luck.

We're hoping to use the RooTooth (Bluetooth to serial) to connect the Create to a desktop PC. Then a wireless camera (probably a DLink or something like that) will be added on top of the create. The PC will be running RoboRealm and voila ... a IRobot Create with Machine Vision!!

First trials will be to scurry around the room avoiding obstacles using vision and the bump sensors/cliff sensors as a failsafe. After that we'll be incorporating SLAM type techniques into mapping an entire room just using vision ...

Anyone interested yet?

:-)

Mine is ordered and will be here soon I hope. (anyone have any pull with that?)lol

I am looking to graft a laptop with wi-fi onto the platform. From there it will run a voice recognition program trained to perform certain behaviors. Somehow integrate a speech synthesizer into the mix so if it doesn't like what I say it can tell me so. Wait, thats what my wife does! Hmmm maybe I could stick a wig on it and program it to be agreeable!lol

Perhaps a talking head on the monitor ala' Max Headroom!
